Vaccinations
Dogs
- Temporary vaccinations at 6-8 weeks of age for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo Virus and Kennel Cough/Infectious Canine Cough Virus.
- First puppy vaccination at 10 to 12 weeks for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo Virus and Kennel Cough/Infectious Canine Cough Virus.
- Second puppy vaccination at 14 to 16 weeks for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo Virus and Kennel Cough/Infectious Canine Cough Virus.
- Annual Booster Vaccination and check immune status and review vaccine requirements.
Cats
- Temporary vaccination at 6-9 weeks of age for Cat Flu and Feline Enteritis. And consider options for outdoor cats or multi-cat household protection for Cat Aids and Cat Infectious Leukaemia.
- Follow up with 2 to 3 vaccinations at 12 and 15 weeks for Cat Flu and Feline Enteritis. And as required Cat Aids and cat Leukaemia.
- Annual Booster Vaccination.
Intestinal worming of dogs and cats
- FORTNIGHTLY from 2-12 weeks
- MONTHLY from 3-6 months
- Your pet should be wormed every 3 months from 6 months of age.
Heartworm of dogs and cats
This killer disease is spread by mosquitoes. Prevention should start at 12 weeks of age. There is a range of monthly products for dogs and cats.
An annual injection is also available for adult dogs. We recommend that dogs over 6 months of age, not already on heartworm prevention should be tested before commencement to avoid any possible reactions.
Healthy cats can start prevention at any age.
Desexing / Neutering Operations
We recommend most pets are desexed at 6 months of age. We can discuss your options and preferences at the time of vaccinations or please contact the surgery for help.
Fleas and Ticks & Paralysis Ticks
Fleas are an unpleasant parasite for your pet to suffer. We have a range of products available.
Ticks and especially paralysis ticks can cause serious illness and even death so it is essential you provide protection and monitor your pet for ticks. We have products ranging from collars, oral tablets, washes and spot-on applications to control these pets. For more information refer to our Paralysis Ticks handout.
Council Registration
All cats and dogs need to be registered with your local council. This will likely be either Brisbane City or Moreton Bay Regional Council depending on your residential address. You can ring your local Council or check their websites to download forms. Remember desexed pets are cheaper to register and fines are higher if your pet is picked up by Council and they are not registered.
Microchipping
Microchipping is compulsory now for all puppies and kittens plus pets changing hands and those registered dangerous or menacing with the council.
Microchipping is also a great way to be reunited with your pet quickly if they go missing. We can arrange to microchip your pet very quickly. Please contact the surgery to arrange this.
Feeding Your Pet
Feeding your pet a good quality food can have many benefits for their health from coat and skin health to weight control and to help minimise allergies and dietary disorders. Good nutrition in our pets is equally as important as in ourselves and can help to lead a healthy life. We carry a wide range of vet quality food and offer a range in budgets as well as prescription diets for your pets that may have special requirements. We can help you with these choices so please feel free to drop in to the surgery and check the range and ask any questions.
Puppy Preschool
We offer Puppy Preschool classes from 8 to 10 weeks of age at the surgery with one of our experienced team of vet nurses. We have been running puppy classes for over a decade and this can help your new puppy become familiar with the surgery, socialise with other puppies of a similar age, learn basic obedience tips and remind you of all the care requirements for your new puppy. Please contact the surgery for details and to book your interest in attending puppy preschool.
Insurance
We recommend you at least consider dog and cat insurance available for your pet. This covers medical costs involved with illness or injury during your pet’s life. None of us can foresee the possible list of injuries or illnesses that each pet could suffer. We can help you look at options and we have at the surgery comparative tables on pet health insurance and brochures on a number of different companies with pricing information. Please contact the surgery for any more information that we can assist you in making a choice associated with pet health cover.
Pet health reminders
We can offer reminders for all your pet’s needs, from vaccinations, dental health recalls, arthritis checks, blood tests and prescription check-ups. We will automatically send you important reminders like vaccinations and heartworm. We also have a postal reminder for dental, blood tests or arthritis check-ups. Please ask if you have any questions or would like us to help you with this service provided free of charge.
