Councils, Registrations & Microchipping

It is a legal requirement to register both cats and dogs in Queensland. This is done under your local council and will mean if you are a ratepayer in Brisbane City Council or Moreton Bay you will need to contact your local council.

You can use the appropriate links below to check more details and download forms to register your dogs and cats.

For pet owners in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area:

Animal Ownership

For those living in Brisbane City Council area:

Requirements for Cat and Dog Owners

From there you can read the laws of your local council as well as download registration forms.

We recommend all pets are microchipped, however as of 2009 there are now compulsory laws in Queensland relating to your responsibilities to getting your pet microchipped.
